These delicious lactation cookies definitely boosts milk supply and are so delicious that you can’t just eat one!! 🙂
Well hello there Guys!!! It’s been a month since I posted last because I just gave birth to my precious baby boy, Jackson William Bell! He is such a sweetheart and I am so glad that God blessed me to be his Momma!! Born via cesarean on Wednesday, September 12th at 2:05 in the afternoon weighing 7 lbs. 12 ounces, Jackson has added so much joy to our lives already. I can honestly say that I’ve never known a love like this before. I just love him so much!!!
I’m committed to nursing Jackson for as long as possible so I want to be sure to keep up with his growing appetite. I ordered some lactation cookies from a Hawaiian company and I wasn’t that impressed so I decided to make my own. The 3 most important ingredients in lactation cookies are brewer’s yeast, flaxseed meal and oatmeal so they shouldn’t be substituted. Contrary to popular belief, BREASTMILK IS NOT AN INGREDIENT IN LACTATION COOKIES. Lol!!
HOW TO MAKE LACTATION COOKIES
These are simply the best lactation cookies in my opinion. Might I even say the BEST cookies period. They are soft and full of flavor. It’s so hard for me to just eat a couple. I just keep telling myself that I’m eating these for Jackson’s benefit as they really help me to increase my supply. Lol!!
I am so thankful to God whom makes all things possible. This journey to motherhood has made me truly trust in God’s plan and His timing. My faith in Him has soared and I am so thankful that we allowed Him to be God in our lives! “He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord.” -Psalm 113:9

Thanks so much!!! They’re so yummy that you’d never guess they’re for lactation. Lol!!
Ashley Gonzalez says
Hello curious if the brewers yeast powered is the same as regular brewers yeast. Can you share the type of brewers yeast you used?
Felesha says
You can usually find it in the breastfeeding section at your grocer.
Melinda says
These are so yummy!!!! I just had my second child, a boy on Feb 19. I am trying to now build a stash of breast milk. They remind me of the chic filet cookies. J am pumping as I type and it has been 5 min or so and I’m coming up on 5 oz on one side and three on the other. 🙏 😊 Thank you.
Felesha says
I am so happy that they are serving well!! Congratulations on your newest blessing!! 🙂
Ania says
Can this dough be freezed and baked later?
Felesha says
Hi Ania! Yes, I freeze them in balls and bake a few off at a time. Enjoy!!
Gillian K. says
I have learnt something new. Thank for answering all the questions too. Amazing work. Love your baby boy Jackson’s shirt. Such a cutie.
Lydia says
Wow! Am going to try this out. Your testimony has inspired me. I have a 5months old and she too is a miracle baby. She is our first.
Thank you for sharing.
Felesha says
Congrats on your little miracle!! God has been so faithful!! I just ate 3 of these yummy cookies last night. They have become my favorite cookies. Enjoy!!
NJ says
Hi felesha,
Thank you for this wonderful recipe. After scooping the cookies onto the baking sheet, do I need to mash for a flat cookie or leave them in balls? Thanks again!!
Felesha says
I just leave them. Hope you enjoyed!
Christa says
Can I bake and freeze these ahead of time? Trying to stock my freezer in advance of our first baby next month!
Felesha says
Hi Christa! My only experiences with this dough has been to freeze them before baking. After scooping them onto the pan, place directly in the freezer. Then place the frozen balls of dough into a gallon freezer bag and place back into freezer. Take a few out daily and bake them so they are hot and fresh out of the oven. Hope you like them as much as I did. So yummy with milk!! Enjoy that precious little blessing coming soon!!
Christa says
Thank you! 🙂
Charla Jones says
What is the serving size for these cookies??? I just made these and they are so delicious!! I don’t want to eat them all in one day! Lol!
Felesha says
When I was still lactating I always ate about 2 per day. Hope this helps!
Morgan says
Can I bake directly after making?
Felesha says
You can but I find that they are best when chilled or at least thrown in the freezer for 10 minutes.
Shannon says
So why does it say preheat oven first? If they need to be refrigerated for an hour or freezer for 10 min?
Felesha says
Great catch! All fixed. Thanks!
Stephanie says
Hi, if i wanted to replace the egg with vegan egg powder and vanilla powder. Do i have to increase the water?
Felesha says
Hi Stephanie! Unfortunately, I have never tested this recipe with egg powder so I can’t speak to it. Let me know how it turns out if you try it.
Josie says
Hi, how many of these would you suggest eating per day?
Felesha says
Hi Josie! I ate at least 2 per day when I was producing.
Debbie says
Just made these this morning after refrigerating the dough overnight. They are SO delicious! I was worried between the Brewer’s yeast and the flaxseed that the cookies would be overly dry or crunchy but these are the perfect oatmeal chocolate chip cookie! A perfect excuse to eat cookies too, I hope they work!
Felesha says
They certainly did for me! Glad you enjoy them!
Vitaliyachern says
I got mastitis and my milk supply decreased badly 🙁 hoping these will help my bring it back . When u freeze them do you just make them into balls and put them in a ziplock? Also if I bake a dozen how long will they stay good ? And should I store them in the fridge ?
Felesha says
Yes! That’s exactly what I do. They never lasted more than a few days but I’m sure they would still be great in a week. I never stored them in the fridge.
Kerri says
I just had my second baby 11 weeks ago. My supply seems to be ok but with my last baby I really struggled. Suffice to say that I’ve tried PLENTY of lactation cookies. These ones are THE BEST I’ve ever had! Thanks for the recipe!
Felesha says
So glad that you enjoy them!!!
Sabrina says
Hi! These are amazing! I didn’t think to freeze the dough and made too many. Will these go bad if left out? Do I need to refrigerate?
Felesha says
No refrigeration necessary.
Ellen says
My daughter and I are making a batch right now:) Do you think I could add ripe bananas to it next time or would it mess with the consistency?
Felesha says
I’ve never experimented with bananas in this recipe so I can’t speak to it.
Kara brady says
Hi, Can I use ground flax seed? Thank you
Felesha says
Yes, that works just fine.
Casey says
These cookies are amazing! I just had twins last month an while my milk came in pretty fast, I found it hard to build a stash. It seemed as quickly as I would pump the milk and store it in the fridge they needed. I’ll be returning to work in another month or so, so I need to have a good supply of milk to leave home with the babies. I made this recipe and within hours began to notice a difference in the amount I was pumping. It is very hard to only have a few!! I will definitely share this recipe with my friends who are nursing,
Thank you!
Olivia says
Any idea how many calories are in each cookie?
Felesha says
I never did the calculation because frankly I needed as many carbs as possible to keep my milk flowing at the time. You might try this calculator.

Anna says
Are the walnuts necessary?
Felesha says
No but I absolutely love them!!
Gabby says
Thank you for this recipe! I swapped the butter with coconut oil for anyone who would like to make it dairy free and it turned out great! Praying this helps with my low milk supply!
Felesha says
So glad you like them! They are certainly my favorite!! Thanking God for your abundant milk supply!!
Brittany says
Can I use salted butter instead of unsalted butter? I got salted and really don’t want to have to go back to the store lol.
Felesha says
Yes. Just omit the salt in the recipe.
Laura says
I baked these at 350 for 12 minutes and they burnt!!
Felesha says
Oh wow! Is your oven calibrated?
LO says
I’ve made three batches of these delicious cookies and cooked for 12 -15 minutes on 350. They’ve never burned once.
Steph says
Delicious! I did butterscotch and chocolate chips to add extra flavor. We love them at our house. I would say the helped my milk supple by 1–2 oz each time. I can help but eat 2-3 a day. Too good 🙂
LO says
These are now my favorite cookies!!! I substitute the Walnuts with Almonds because my son has a nut allergy and they are still just as delicious! I literally cannot stop eating them. A friend made these twice with walnuts and I couldn’t stop then. I also made some with white chocolate! OMG!!! Amazing goodness! They will be a go to dessert even after I stop lactating!
Felesha says
Love stories like this!! I’m so glad you love them as much as I do!!
Nina says

What does T stand for?
Really want to make these cookies (:

Can I use quick oats rather than old fashioned. I sent my husband to the store…
Felesha says
Sure! Let me know what you think.
Emmalin says
I made this recipe and it was great! I also added 4 tbsps of coconut oil and they turned out nice and moist! I was finding my milk would be all sucked out of me by the end of the day and it’s made me feel soo much more full and I’ve had a way happier baby in the evenings because of it! Thank you!
Felesha says
I’m so glad you enjoy these cookies and that they’re working to increase your supply.
Laura says
Love these!! I had my 3rd baby almost 5 months ago and this is my first time to actually stick to my breastfeeding journey. I wouldn’t say that I’m a low supplier but I usually make just enough and every once in a while, I only pump 2 oz. Anyway, I’m always looking to build my supply and wanted to make my own cookies since they can be pricey to buy. These are so good! I just ate 3. Thanks for a great recipe!
Felesha says
Yeaaa! Wonderful!! So glad you love them!
Amanda Beam says
Just made these and substituted the nuts with dried cranberries, so yummy!
Felesha says
Wonderful! Glad you like them!
Katie C says
If you remove the walnuts then will they still work?
Felesha says
Of course!! I just love nuts in my cookies. Hope you’ll try them.
Lauren Bailey says
These cookies are absolutely delicious! I just made them for the first time tonight to try to get a boost in my supply. Any recommendation on how long before pumping / nursing I should eat one for it to be effective?
Felesha says
So glad you enjoy them! I ate a couple of these daily and my supply never diminished as long as I was pumping around the clock.
Napua says
Hi! I’m so excited to try this! Question– what brand of Brewer’s Yeast do you use??
Felesha says
Hi Napua! I use the Now Foods brand. Hope you enjoy!
Jazmín says
Do you know how many calories per cookie?
Felesha says
Haha! Unfortunatley, I do not. I was never concerned with calories while lactating. The more carbs, the better for my milk production.
Mya says
Hello. I found a recipe very similar to this one. But instead of flaxmeal I used wheat germ! Would the flax yield more results?
Felesha says
Hi Mya! Flaxseed has a stronger nutrient profile when compared to wheat germ but they are both considered galactogogues! Enjoy!
Pearl says
Hello, may I know the nutrition information of this recipe? I will be making this one as I am a pumping mom & would like to share it to a few breastfeeding moms too, but I think some of them will ask about the nutrition information of this. Thank you!
Felesha says
I never calculated nutrition in this recipe because I was more concerned with getting all the calories and carbs that I could in order to continually produce for my son. I know there are several tools online that may be able to calculate it for you.
Michelle says
I LOVE these cookies! I have made them for myself, neighbor, and coworker and they all love them for not only the deliciousness but for the results! I usually make enough to pass some out and then freeze the rest. The just made a batch and used peanut butter morsels which I prefer for this cookie, yum!!!
Felesha says
That sounds like a wonderful addition, Michelle! God bless your bountiful milk supply!!
Mariette says
I’ve never commented on a recipe before, but I have to say I make this specific recipe for EVERY new mom and am making a double batch today for myself for our next baby that is coming in a couple weeks. I always bake off about 12 for the mom and provide a bunch of frozen balls and EVERYONE loves these. It’s hard to keep their partners from eating them! SO delicious. I really focus on the creaming process and it pays off! Thank you!
Felesha says
Wonderful! SO glad you enjoy them!!

Really want to make these cookies (:
Greetings from Norway!
Felesha says
Hi Nina! Tablespoon!!
Allie Jenkins says
I love these cookies! The only thing that didn’t work out for me was baking them from the freezer. They ended up burning on the outside and stayed raw in the middle. I would suggest letting them thaw out before you put them in the oven!
Felesha says
Glad you enjoy them! I’ve never had that issue and I baked them from frozen daily. You might try making sure that your oven is calibrated.
Hebba h says
How many should you eat a day to increase supply, and when did you start noticing the increase?
Felesha says
I always ate 2 freshly baked ones per day.
Jenna says
How many do you eat a day and how long until you saw and increase in supply?
Felesha says
I always ate 2 per day. It really can depend on the individual but for me just a day or two.
Ashley says
Wow! Made these tonight. They were phenomenal! I am not a good producer but trying hard to keep up with it and hoping these help! Thank you!!!
Dominique says
These cookies are incredible! I ate four in one sitting – hard to control myself around these lol My mom brain self put the extra dough in a ziploc bag in the freezer, without forming them into balls first. Maybe a dumb question, but will I be able to roll them into balls later to bake since the dough is already frozen? Thank you so much for this recipe. I can’t wait to see if they help!
Marcy says
Really loved these cookies, my mom brain forgot to get flax so I just added another egg, I also did chopped pecans and coconut. They are delicious I like popping them in the microwave for a bit before a eat them.
Megan says
I am freezer prepping for the birth of my second child and I just made this recipe as a part of my freezer prep. I tried one cookie from the oven on the day I made it, and I was pleasantly surprised that these cookies are soooo good. So good that I was craving these over my normal chocolate chip cookies recipe today. I thought for sure that the brewer’s yeast was going to make the cookies taste cheesy or salty…you can’t taste it at all! It just tastes like your typical, yummy oatmeal cookie. I snuck two baked cookies from my freezer statsh just now, reheated them in the microwave and the texture of them was STILL so good; pleasantly chewy and crisp like fresh out of the oven. I am so happy with this recipe…but now I’m worried I’m going to gobble all of them up before my child is born!!!
Felesha says
So glad you enjoy them Megan! I always made them with 4 T of the brewers yeast and thought they were still tasty and helped with production. I couldn’t taste the yeast at 6 T either. How many T did you use?
Gina says
Can you sub applesauce for the butter?
Felesha says
Hi Gina! I’ve not tried that so unfortunately, I can’t speak to it. Let me know if you try it.
