When hubby and I were dating, he took me to meet his family during a summer holiday bbq. OK. His family! Bigger than a large-sized remote town in Bulgaria!! All of them, it seemed were packed into Aunt Lou’s house to celebrate the holiday. They were all buzzing around excited about the aroma coming from two extra large pans in the oven. The aroma…well, it was that of The Family Dump Pie. Dump Pie, you may ask? Yep! Dump Pie they called it. The hubby’s sister, Tracey asked me if I wanted a serving and I told her that I’d just share with her brother. She asked me again if I wanted a serving. 🙂 What she was getting at was that he wouldn’t be sharing anything with me when it came to this dessert. Lol! She was right and after tasting it, I certainly understood why. Needless to say, these pans were completely empty within like 10 minutes flat! It’s so rich and flavorful that you’ll want to savor every bite for yourself.
I realize that the rest of the world probably refers to this decadent dessert as Dump Cake. Well, I venture to say that hubby’s family changed the name because the consistency is that of a pie rather than cake. Think Peach Cobbler on steroids! It’s’ sooo good! Last year, I entered my apple version in a cobbler contest at church and it came in first place!! It’s definitely a winner in this family and I’m sure yours will love it too!
This Peach Dump Pie is so easy to make and you can do it with your eyes closed. It uses canned goods, boxed cake mix, butter, spices, flavored extracts and oh, WALNUTS! That was my addition! I love the added texture in the pie! Yummy!!
As in it’s title, dump 1 28oz. can of sliced peaches in heavy syrup, 1 15 oz. can of the same, and 1 8 oz. can of crushed pineapple into a greased 10X13 casserole dish. Don’t use all of the syrup through. You can toss or drink maybe a quarter cup of it. You don’t want it to be too juicy. Sprinkle the fruit with about a 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon, 1/8 tsp. of nutmeg, 1 tsp. of vanilla extract and 1/4 tsp of lemon extract, and 1 tsp. sugar. Give it a stir and taste it. If you feel it needs a little bit more of this and that, add to your heart’s content. Make it your very own! After the flavors are right, sprinkle 1 c. of walnuts on top. Now dump an entire butter boxed cake mix right over the top, I use Duncan Hines. Spread it evenly. Melt 2 sticks of butter over low heat on the stove and pour evenly over entire dish, making sure that the butter covers every morsel as you don’t want white patches to develop. This will ensure an even golden brown color over the entire pie. Place the dish in a 350 degree oven for about 50-60 minutes. It should be bubbly, brown and crusty all over! Serve this Peach Dump Pie immediately out of the oven with a scoop of ice cream. It’s a must! Say Grace and enjoy!

My husband and I had a date night last night. We went to dinner and a movie. I wanted something sweet but thought it was too last to eat a dessert. This morning I had my shake for breakfast and still thinking about not having dessert at dinner last night decided to bake this dish I saw on #saygraceblog.com. Having most of the ingredients I prepared (Peach Dump Pie) as instructed and in an hour it came out of the oven smelling so good I had to try it out for taste. Well, first I have to tell you that I had all of the ingredients except the pineapples. This is a good dessert that I will make again. My dessert crave has been satisfied. The dish was a bit sweet so keep that in mind if you don’t like your desserts too sweet. The instructions used peaches in heavy syrup, you could try peaches in a light syrup and omit adding the sugar, especially if you are serving it with ice cream. This is a sweet tooth delight.

Glad you enjoyed it Cheryl! Yes, this recipe is so forgiving! Try it with multiple combinations! I also make variations with apple and pumpkin. They’re both delicious too!!
